The Ahh of Tea:

Join the Adventure

Welcome to The Ahh of Tea Adventure

Tea is more than a drink—it’s a bridge between cultures, a ritual of connection, and a vessel for stories that span centuries. This documentary is a love letter to tea and the communities that thrive around it. From the bustling tea houses of the Bay Area to the quiet tea rooms tucked away in New York and Los Angeles, we’ve set out to capture the spirit, history, and transformative power of tea.

This project was a dream of mine that started 20 years ago after I finished my award-winning documentary STANDING ON MY SISTERS’ SHOULDERS (2003), produced with Dr. Robert and Joan Sadoff, distributed by Women Make Movies. This journey has already taken us to incredible places. We’ve explored vibrant tea cultures in New York and DC, and we’ve filmed at beloved Bay Area spots like Sophie’s Cuppa Tea and Teance. But the story is far from finished. We’re looking for tea lovers, creatives, and changemakers to join us—whether as participants, donors, or collaborators. Your involvement can help us uncover more untold stories and bring this film to life.

By sharing tea’s unique ability to foster connection and mindfulness, we aim to spread its magic far and wide. This film is not just about tea; it’s about the human stories steeped in its tradition. Join us in celebrating the beauty and impact of this ancient brew.

We are grateful for the nonprofit status and 501(c)(3) Sponsorship through From The Heart Productions and Carole Dean who embraced the idea for this documentary.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

About Laura Lipson

Laura Lipson is currently developing a new documentary, called The “Ahh” of Tea – from the resonance of the ancient rituals to the new embrace of tea in the wake of COVID and quarantine.

Her previous passion project was as the director/writer/and co-producer of the award winning documentary Standing On My Sisters’ Shoulders about the Mississippi Women in the Civil Rights Women. It went on to win more than 10 festival awards.

And in 2014, she was invited to be a speaker for the State Department and show Standing On My Sisters’ Shoulders to audiences all over South Africa.   She shared filmmaking and interviewing techniques with university film and journalism students, and used the film as a starting point for discussions with audiences about the role of mentorship, and the importance of preserving grassroots history.

After graduating with honors from U.C. Berkeley, Laura started her career working as an assistant film editor, including working on two features in Paris, with  acclaimed Chilean filmmaker, Raul Ruiz.

More recently She went back to graduate school and earned her MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Bennington College. For her thesis, she wrote a series of essays centered on iconic places in LA, tied to family history and her own coming of age.

She has worked as a television marketer with ABC, CBS, and the African American cable channel TV One where she rose to Senior VP. Through her own company Galray Creative, she works with a variety of clients including Warner Brothers, ABC, Hallmark Channel, Peacock, and the US Navy writing, producing, and creative directing short form videos and marketing.
